-Good support in the middle of the shoe, meaning the middle of the shoe should not bend significantly. Bend at the toes is fine.
-Solid back on the shoe to ensure the foot is firmly in place.
-Distance of one thumb width from your toe to the end of the shoe.
-Shoes for exercise laces are better than slip on shoes, as they hold the foot in place. Similar to dress shoes, a strap is preferable to open for same reason.
-If orthotics will be fitted in them, make sure the original lining of the shoe, or footbed, lifts out and replaced with the orthotic. Make sure there is enough depth in the shoe.
